FAQ’S

Q: Do all pet stores carry everything I may need for my reptile?

A: Most pet stores carry a little of everything, but if you have a specialized pet it may be best to look for one that can offer you exactly what your pet needs.

Q: I want to get a rabbit, but I don’t know anything about them.

A: Take the time to research how to care for a rabbit and to determine if they are a right fit for you and your family. You’ll find the larger pet stores have learning centers that may be of value to you. Or you could benefit from the one-on-one attention that a smaller pet store can offer.

Q: I have several large parrots and a few smaller birds, can I just feed them the same thing?

A: Each bird, whether small or large, has very different dietary requirements. So it’s vital that you check in with a knowledgeable person to understand what to feed according to that bird’s nutritional needs, and in what quantities. Specialty pet stores will be able to provide this information for you.

Halloween Pet Safety in Colorado

Halloween Pet Safety in Colorado

Halloween is a time of costumes, candy, and celebrations. But while we humans might revel in the spooky festivities, it can sometimes be a frightful time for our furry, feathered, or scaled companions. Wet Noses Pet Sitting, Northern Colorado’s trusted partner in pet care, is here with essential tips to ensure your pets stay safe, calm, and comfortable during this festive season.

1. Costumes: To Wear or Not to Wear?

Before dressing up Mittens as a witch or Fido as a pumpkin, consider their comfort. Ensure any costume doesn’t restrict their movement, vision, or ability to breathe. If they seem distressed or show any resistance, it might be best to skip the outfits. After all, their natural coats are already pretty fabulous!

2. Keep the Treats Out of Reach

While chocolates and candies are a delight for us, they can be toxic to pets, especially dogs. Always keep Halloween treats safely tucked away, and ensure your pet has its own safe treats to enjoy.

3. Provide a Safe Space

The constant ringing of the doorbell or children shouting “Trick or Treat!” can be stressful for pets. Consider setting up a quiet, safe space for them to retreat. This is particularly important for exotic animals or those who might not be accustomed to noise, like certain breeds of dogs or rabbits.

4. Decorations & Pets: Caution Ahead!

Keep decorations out of paw’s reach. Candles, jack-o-lanterns, and even artificial cobwebs can pose risks. Ensure that wires and batteries are safely hidden away to prevent curious bites.

5. Keep Pets Indoors

Halloween night sees a lot of foot traffic, unusual costumes, and increased vehicular movement. To keep pets safe, especially cats, keep them indoors. It’s also a good idea to update their ID tags and microchip details, just in case.

6. Chicken Care During Halloween

For our feathered friends in the coop, ensure their housing is secure from any pranksters or predators that might be out on Halloween night. Wet Noses Pet Sitting has expertise in chicken care and can offer personalized suggestions.

7. Trust Wet Noses for Halloween Pet Care

If you’re out celebrating or just want to ensure your pet has the best care during the festivities, Wet Noses Pet Sitting is here for you. From dog walking to cat sitting, overnight stays, chicken care, and more, our bonded, insured, and thoroughly background-checked employees are trained to offer the best care. Plus, our team of managers is always on standby to assist during emergencies or answer any questions.

Conclusion

Halloween is a time of fun and frolic, but let’s make sure our pets feel safe and loved during the celebrations. A little precaution goes a long way in ensuring they too have a happy Halloween. And remember, whether it’s a witching hour walk for your dog or tending to your aquarium while you’re out trick-or-treating, Wet Noses Pet Sitting is always here to help!

Do You Charge Extra for Multiple Pets?

Colorado is a very pet-friendly area and many households have multiple pets. This can mean when looking for pet care it can be a bit harder. If you are boarding dogs, there is an increased price for the more you have. The same for cats. Not to mention the stress of needing to transport them to a facility, or to different places if you have different types of animals. For those of you who have large pet households, pet sitters may be your only real option when going out of town.

So how much extra will it be for multiple pets?

In general our rates include two pets, but we evaluate each household individually. A household with three dogs that need to be walked separately is very different from a house with one dog and two mice. We find out the number of pets you have as well as their routine and levels of care, and provide you a rate based on your entire household. When we do charge extra, it is generally $2 per pet.

What animals cost more?

We do charge a bit extra for exotic animals that require specific experience, such as horses and parrots. Learn more about what exotic pets we watch. This is because we need to have sitters on staff with a more broad experience level than an average sitter.

Why You Need Pet Insurance

pet insurance

There are few things more terrible than not being able to afford treatment for your pet in a medical emergency. Knowing that they need help, but not being about to get it for them feels like being punched in the gut. And that’s when having pet insurance can really help.

I just read a story yesterday about a dog that was sent home from an emergency clinic to die.  Sadly, the owners did not qualify for financing and they did not have the money to pay up front for care. Even though most insurances will reimburses after the fact, it would not have necessarily fixed the problem in that case, but in many situations it allows the owner to focus more on the best care of the pet rather than the financial side of the decision for treatment.

Top 3 Reasons Why You Need Pet Insurance

1. Vet bills can be huge and often come up unexpectedly

Pets get sick, they have accidents, get hurt and need care. Did you know that according to Datamonitor, 1 out of 3 pets need unexpected care every year? What’s more, on top of that 4 out of 5 pets will  experience a medical emergency in their lifetime. Having the proper insurance for these times can be a life saver.

2. Saving money for emergencies is hard

Some people think a savings account is just as good as having insurance. However, that’s not necessarily true. Saving money is tricky, it can take years to save the amount needed for care. Plus, it can be wiped out pretty quickly and if they need more care in a few months you may not be able to cover it.

3. It gives you peace of mind

You can rest easy knowing that your pet is covered no matter what tomorrow brings. Peace of mind as a responsible pet parents is a wonderful thing!

For all of these reasons I was excited to discover that Colorado is one of the top states for pet insurance!

Make sure to keep an eye out for our future post on details of how it works and different companies.  In the meantime, if you have any questions about pet insurance just give us a call at Wet Noses Pet Sitting!
